Clow: Mapping the Galactic Underground

The 2012 phenomenon is largely a cottage industry of writers, lecturers and New Age celebrities who market their theories to people through videos, in workshops and on websites. There are many of these people who have been spreading for years the Gospel of the Mayans, “time – acceleration,” the evolution of consciousness and of course, the end of the current age. Appeals are made to the allegedly superior spiritual culture of the Mayans and their “sacred” time – keeping, while the darker side of that civilization is given scant attention, if any. Hey, if something you promote has a side that cuts against the narrative, best leave it alone, right?

It is noteworthy that since the era of the post New Age Harmonic Convergence date of 1987, there have been a steady rise in the publishing of books that claim received knowledge and wisdom from extraterrestrial sources through trance channel mediums. While books claiming to be dictated from alien races coincided with the UFO culture from the 1950′s. this was still a marked departure from earlier channeled material that allegedly came from “ascended beings” or “masters” who resided on Earth (at least at one time). In the late 19th century, the original Theosophist (and Godmother of the New Age Movement) Helena Blavatsky claimed to receive messages from mysterious God – like “Mahatmas” who were former humans who acquired enough spiritual power to break free of the wheel of reincarnation. This belief in the veracity of received knowledge through mediumistic means established a tradition that was carried out by Blavatsky’s followers. Alice Bailey, who was deeply influenced by Blavatsky‘s work, joined the Theosophical Society and eventually produced a highly technical series of spiritual writings from “Ascended Masters” she claimed was dictated to her for over 30 years.

A few years after Bailey’s death in 1949, George Van Tassel,  former aircraft inspector began having Friday night channelings that he claimed came from other planets. George Adamski’s book, The Flying Saucers Have Landed came out the following year, in 1953. Ken Carey’s, The Starseed Transmissions was immensely influential in the New Age Movement in the late 1970’s and every loner and outsider who read it soon imagined themselves to be a “walk-in” from some other planet. But that book has been eclipsed in recent years by two well-known New Age authors, Barbara Marciniak and Barbara Hand Clow. And they both have plenty to say about aliens, ascension and 2012.

Barbara Hand Clow is undoubtedly the more important writer as her works has been published in different languages worldwide. Clow is not only the author of at least 14 books you can buy on Amazon.com that deal in various subjects such as “Awakening the Planetary Mind,” ”the Pleaidian Agenda” and the “Alchemy of Nine Dimensions,”  but she’s also the publisher, as well. Clow began her career as an astrologer and then as a medium who allegedly channels “the Pleiadians.” She married  Gerry Clow, a book publisher and owner of Bear and Co, which under Hand Clow’s direction, became one of the most well – known New Age book imprints in the world. Almost all of the books published about New Age Mayanism and the 2012 phenomenon have been written or published by Clow or people closely associated with her, such as Jose Arguelles, James Calleman and John Major Jenkins – and many others.

James Calleman has perhaps an unfortunate and mysterious connection with Clow. His book, The Mayan Calendar was published by Bear & Company in 2004. Calleman was a major influence on Clow and she claims to have written The Maya Code as a response to Calleman’s theories. Clow alleges in The Maya Code, that her middle-aged son Tom had “snitched” a copy of Calleman’s book from Hand’s brother. On June 6, 2004, Tom’s body was found hanging from a tree, an apparent suicide. Clow claims her son was depressed over the deaths of his brother Matthew and his father. Both Matthew and Tom Clow, along with their mother, had been initiated into a Mayan mystery ritual in 1989 by another 2012 promoter and shaman, Humbatz Men,(Clow, 2004)  and the date of his death coincided with a a “key event in the Mayan calendar,” according to Clow.  Barbara claims in The Maya Code that her son’s backpack was missing, and she thinks that it was stolen along with the missing copy of Calleman’s book which she assumes was in the backpack. This awful incident is both tragic and significant to Clow, and it apparently led her to become more involved in spreading the 2012 Mayan prophecy.

All this is tragic enough, but that did not stop Clow from choosing a different target than the December 21, 2012 date others like Arguelles, McKenna and Drunvalo had selected, predicting instead that “time and evolutionary acceleration (?) would be completed by October 28, 2011.”  this date corresponds to Calleman’s speculations and corresponds to Terence McKenna’s 2012 “Timewave” theories before McKenna “corrected“ his date to align with the winter solstice, 2012. Were they copying from each other’s notes, or what? Bear in mind that Clow is not trained scholar in archeology,  anthropology, or history. Clow claims to arrive at her pseudo-scientific speculations through “intuition” and “meditating.” That’s right, Clow’s primary scientific method is “intuition.“ What Clow and the authors who publish their speculative reports for her publishing house have done is little more than project their theories onto the dim past and work them into a mixer of their consciousness and work and mix and match until the evidence says what they want it to say.

But let’s speak plainly. The  Mayans, as far as anyone can tell, died out because their so-called superior “time-keeping” couldn’t keep them from wrecking their environment which produced catastrophic droughts that went a long way in wiping out their culture. Nor did their impeccable time – keeping prevent the Spanish from shooting, plundering and colonizing what was left of their civilization. If building wondrous structures and tracking the stars and composing calendars till the cows came home couldn’t help the Mayans back when they needed it the most, why on Earth does  Clow and her New Age celebrity gang  think it will help us now in the 21st century? Because it is telling that Clow and her Mayanist stable of writers believe that the West will not survive this materialistic age without “the secrets of the Mayans,” which sounds to me like the blind leading the blind. (Clow, 2004)

Remember, the Mayans were fairly easily dispensed with by the likes of Cortes and his hired killers. In fact, Mayan civilization had been in a precipitous decline for many, many centuries before the Spanish finished them off for good. But let’s look at what made the Mayans so wise and worthy of making such a big deal over. Their chosen  form of governance was heavily dependent on a social division of slave labor, a priestly elite and very wealthy aristocracy. Check. Recent scientific findings suggest that the Mayan civilization never recovered from three successive droughts brought on by the Mayans overwhelming their environment that destroyed their eco-system and forced millions to abandon the cities – states. Check.  They engaged in ritualistic bloodletting and human sacrifice, including child sacrifice which was practiced on special holidays. Check. Removal of the still- beating human heart was a quaintly barbaric practice performed by the Mayan political and religious elite. Check.  I don’t know about you, but these Mayans hardly  sound like something I would want to emulate or hold in high esteem. What nobility  or wisdom can there be in a culture who superstitiously and brutally sacrificed children? Not that we as a race have evolved beyond that point since the Mayans. We’re more inclined to use children as soldiers or sex slaves than just killing them. Yet, for Barbara Hand Clow, the Mayans are to be revered as the “keepers of sacred time” and whatnot. According  to Clow and her stable of Mayanist mythologists the Mayans held the key to the evolution of human consciousness by devising a calendar that was more attuned with the Divine Plan., a future towards a “a time-less Enlightened cosmic consciousness.” (Calleman, 2001) According to Calleman:

“The prophetic Mayan calendar is unique among the calendars of the world in being non-astronomically based. Rather than being based on the physical movements of the earth, sun and planets it charts the changing spiritual energies of cosmic evolution.”

The Mayans also murdered children on their altars, so if this crap is true, then “cosmic evolution” best appears to be avoided and regarded as sinister. I really would like to know how Calleman was able to verify this beyond doubt. Like all the 2012 New Age/Mayanist crowd, Clow, Calleman and others present their opinions and beliefs as if they were based on solid, factual evidence. Does the calendar of the Mayans actually “represent the nine underworlds of consciousness” as maintained by Calleman? (Calleman, 2004) Or is that something these writers want to believe so badly that they backwards engineer their opinions, beliefs and perspectives to find what they are looking for. And in this, Barbara Hand Clow is making a lot of money misleading many into a mindset that is going to be ripe for disappointment come December 21, 2012. I just hope those who were foolish enough to fall for her enlightened pseudo-rationality will stand up from it and chose to finally stand up for reality.

Terence McKenna: Tripping the Timewave Fantastic

The late Terence McKenna, was a  DMT enthusiast. drug smuggler, philosopher, occultist, lecturer, writer  and “pro-mind-altering psychonaut,” who in the 1990′s, claimed that through divination of the I Ching, the Mayan Calendar, computer models and copious ingestion of psychedelic drugs, predicted that on December 22, 2012 at precisely 11:10 pm, the world as we know it will end. This prediction was the culmination of a 1971 psychedelic experience McKenna had in jungles of the Amazon, where he claimed an alien intelligence imparted to him the  mathematical key that led to McKenna’s theory of time he termed, “Timewave,”  conceived as a historical dialectic of “novelty” and “habit” which would end in a “singularity” in November 2012. When McKenna caught wind that others had selected December 2012 as the endpoint of history, McKenna adjusted (err… “corrected” – or more to the point, moved the date of) his calculations to the winter solstice December 2012.

It was McKenna’s theory that the Mayans somehow were able to predict the end of their civilization, which more or less did occur with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. Contrary to popular “Mayanist” belief, (“Mayanist” being the sect of the New Age that believes the Mayans were timekeepers without peer – although the Babylonians, Celts and Chinese were just as meticulous) the Mayans never “predicted” anything like an “apocalypse” or an “end times” scenario. Yes, they were able to follow and predict certain astrological movements, but nothing as ascribed to them by the 2012 “end-of-the-world” New Age cottage industry. McKenna created his “Timezone” prophecy without any factual data at all. Instead McKenna relied on his own “intuition,” drug use and the I-Ching to create one of the biggest pseudo scientific farces of the 21st century. And the most amazing thing is that there are people will want to make this illusion true for themselves. McKenna was a believer of fulfilled prophecy and that psychedelic drug use was essential to getting behind the framework of our consensus reality, so he backwards-engineered a perspective that took both views into account and made them real for himself (and others). It was h opinion that the apes who first tripped on mushrooms became the “first shamen” and helped take the species to an evolutionary step forward in the eventual design of Homo sapiens. [2]  But none of this stoner scientific speculation  is real. It couldn’t be, because what we have here is a case of projection and opinion made true by the force of belief through a cult of personality. And as we tick closer to December 21 (or 22 or 23), we come closer to the welcomed death of these fantastic fairy tales. Now, that’s an eschatology I could get behind.

Dr. Wayne Dyer, "Sit Back and Let the Unseen World Take Care of It."

 

To make your dreams come true, you must go to the unseen world–the world of Spirit, or inspiration. It is this world that will guide you to anything you’d like to have in your life. – Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

 

This fluffy-sounding yet insidious trope is one of my favorite flower-hat New Age-isms to refute, and I thank Dr. Dyer for placing it so elegantly.

Making one’s “dreams come true,” aka, ” the “pursuit of happiness,” has been hardwired into our collective brainpan for so long, we have failed to noticed how unconsciously driven we are to seek the pleasures of comfort. As I briefly recounted in my blog entry, “The Soft Domination,” our perceived need to dominate our environment with creature comforts has produced a dysfunctional, lopsided world where affluence and poverty seemingly exist in unrelated, parallel worlds. The fact that one world feeds off the other like an ever-present vampire is hardly addressed or considered by those who are “lucky” enough to be born on the good side of town, like, presumably, the good Doctor Dyer, the author of the above quote. One only has to look at the schematic of Dyer’s recipe for success with a clear eye to see how shallow and meaningless – and more important – deceptive it is. But Dyer learned a long time ago that spouting such Candyland platitudes is what sells his books. So he must be on the right track, right? But let’s take this quote apart and see what remains.

To make your dreams come true, you must go to the unseen world…

Apparently, this is the world that Dr. Dyer is intimately familiar with. It is “unseen.” And it is a “world.” Is Dyer speaking metaphorically or is he claiming that there is a level of existence that is “unseen” but apprehended? Why is it so crucial that one enters into this  “unseen” world to make one’s wishes to “come true?”Dyer explicitly claims that this world has certain properties.

–the world of Spirit, or inspiration.

Let that sink in for a moment. Forget that there are many dimensions in defining the word “spirit.” We will assume for the sake of brevity that the Good Doctor is referring to the part of self that is said to survive after death. The next word, inspiration, contains the root of spirit, so we can see that Dyer connects spirit and inspiration very closely. Inspiration is the “process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially creative.” [1] So, instead of actually working out your dream in dealing with the physical complications that will arise to thwart your dream from ever becoming a reality, Dr. Dyer prefers that you sit back and wait for a disembodied, unseen dimension to somehow birth your unmanifested desire into existence. For he actually says so in the next sentence that:

It is this world that will guide you to anything you’d like to have in your life.

Take a look at the world around you. The numbers don’t add up.

At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day

The poorest 40 percent of the world’s population accounts for 5 percent of global income. The richest 20 percent accounts for three-quarters of world income.

According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death. [2]

I guess in the rose-colored world of Dr. Wayne Dyer, who has amassed considerable wealth peddling sweet-sounding nonsense to the crowd of gullible New Age consumers, his program of wishing and waiting works for him, but not for those who live in the real world of consequence. If “making one’s dreams come true” is the overarching motivation in one’s life, and it doesn’t include all others who live in this world with you, then what you want is continuance of the insanity of a world that we have now. That’s not good enough, obviously. But for those like Wayne Dyer, things can’t be good enough. And that’s the problem with CandyLand metaphysics. Too many people are going to have to die for no reason before anyone begins to question their preciously-held beliefs.

Yesterday we briefly looked at the Father of the 2012 Mayan Code Prophecy, the late Jose Arguelles. Another New Age prophet of the Last Days is Drunvalo Melchizedek (birth name: Bernard Perona, born in 1941). Drunvalo, like Arguelles, foresees a major future event happening on Earth that isn’t all that different from the Christian eschatology found in the pages of the Book of Revelations. Yet, one major difference is that God and Jesus is not going to be coming back to lead their children home. Instead, the cataclysm to come will be resolved through the light of consciousness. In this 2007 interview at a workshop in Washington DC, Drunvalo is asked why he had grown less “optimistic” about the current world situation.

Marie: During our last interview some time ago, you did not seem as optimistic about what is happening in the world as you are today. What has changed?

Drunvalo: I know we are going to make it because I have been allowed to see into the future. However, even though I optimistically say “we make it” we are still going to pass through this little “eye of the needle” where it is going to look like it is hopeless. And they [my guides] wouldn’t let me see what this was — but something happens and what looks so hopeless turns around very quickly.

Marie: Is it like the three days of darkness that we used to talk about?

The “three days of darkness” (which was originally thought to last five days) was an anticipated event built upon the claim that the Earth was passing through a cosmic field called the “photon belt” and that “three days of darkness” would be followed by a shift in energy and consciousness. This idea was presented in the mid-1990′s by many New Age authors, notably Barbara Hand Clow and Sheldon Nidle. The “three days of darkness” referred to the result of the Earth passing through this multi-dimensional light field; all electrical devices would cease to operate for three days and the world would experience 72 hours of “night.” This idea would later pop up again in the Y2K scare at the end of the 20th century.

Drunvalo: No, this doesn’t have anything to do with that. It looks as if the outer environment we live in will completely and totally die, as well as everything in it. We are going to come to that stage. So it is going to look hopeless. My angels didn’t show me that part of it. All they would say is that you are going to witness in your life a place where it looks like it is just over. Then this “thing” is going to happen. And the world situation is going to be quickly and completely turned around.

Yes, Drumvalo says that his “angels” showed him a vision that “look as if” everything around us will “totally die,” and then miraculously, everything will be better.

Marie: In the workshop you spoke about “waves” of people who will die. Can you explain what you were talking about?

Drunvalo: The waves are spoken about in Native American prophecy. There was an American Indian from a long time ago that was allowed to go to all the various tribes and secret societies (the Grandmother societies) and to collect and write down the prophecies from these tribes to find out what they had in common.

He found one thread which ran through all the prophecies which talks about the time which is approaching. There are three waves of people on the earth who are said to die in a very short amount of time. I don’t know what that is about exactly, but when I was reading about it, it felt like it occurs in about 10 days time. Something very quick — something VERY BIG happens and kills an enormous number of people.

Outwardly it looks horrible. It could be Atomic war, the bird flu or who knows what. Outwardly, to the survivors, it looks like a catastrophe, but inwardly the people who leave this way have planned it. They want to leave, and they want to leave together. When they collect over the top of the earth, the first wave goes to a specific place in time/space dimension so they can be with their own kind. Because they are not really in tune with the Earth they can be in harmony together (elsewhere).

Drunvalo turns to Native American eschatology to legitimate and populate his own desire for achieving a solution in the world he doesn’t believe he has the power to carry out. He reads this passage and within his imagination he builds a scenario in his mind where some kind of genocide occurs. And then he says those that die wanted to leave anyway! Obviously, if most of these people were so unhappy with there lives, it had to have something to do with the relationships they formed with others. Does anyone really believe that these miserable murdered would want to go off to another place to hang around the with the other miserable murdered they tried to get away from? It’s a very neat and tidy trick. Nobody has to take responsibility for anything in this scenario. Don’t feel bad about other people’s suffering: they chose to suffer. This is a great, although sinister, New Age trope.

Then it is said that there is another bigger change coming with another wave of people leaving the planet. Again this is by choice on the inner levels — not a kind of suicide — but on the inner these people know something is about to occur and they come together to go to another place in space time.

In the third wave, a massive amount of people die. This group called “hitchhikers” in the prophecies doesn’t know where their home is so they leave, looking for that place and eventually they do find their home.

After these waves pass there are only millions (not billions) of people left in the world — a much smaller number. The people that are left over will come together in one heart according to Native American prophecy — they become as one living being.

So New Age eschatology is nothing more than an appeal to Native American mythology where everything is reversed. As if living on a Native American reservation is somehow an uplifting spiritual goal. No, Drunvalo mythologizes the Native American spiritualism into something that only exists inside his mind. My point is this: if the Native Americans are not of “one heart” now, why would anyone believe they could be in the future? As far as I can tell, Native American spirituality has not helped any Native American who’s broke, bored and looking for something to do on the reservation. It’s not as if there’s a lot of money in it.

Regardless of race or religion, all the divisions are dropped and the remaining people become as one family. Then, with this new found higher consciousness, those that are left take the earth and they fly it — as if the earth is turned into a space ship which is flown to a new place, and a beautiful new way of living emerges on earth.

Why would  ”all the divisions” be “dropped?” Because there are fewer people? Because this is only a claim made in the  vacuum of desiring a solution without having to work towards one? What would be a “beautiful new way” of living on Earth?

Marie: So the actual earth is used as a space ship… so do you mean that Mother Earth is going to clean herself in this process?

Drunvalo: Yes, everything is solved. We totally fix everything through pure Consciousness, not through technology or anything like that but through our very being. From a Melchizedek point of view, we actually change orbit.

And there you have it: better living through higher consciousness, guaranteed by Drumvalo’s “angels.” All we have to do is sit back and wait for the good times to roll.

Further into the interview, Drunvalo paints a vivid ascension scenario:

Marie: But hearing you this week, it feels like humanity (we) will be “going home”…

Drunvalo: Oh, yes, because after that, we leave the earth altogether. There comes a point where we completely leave the earth, we transcend it, we go into another level of existence and that is the beginning of a very rapid, but very long journey. And we end up completely beyond the stars and planets. We end up existing in another way and in another octave of existence.

Marie: Do we leave with our body?

Drunvalo: Initially we do. We leave with our body and then our body mutates into something that would look more like an ET. After that we become Everything. But that is only the beginning of the journey.

The New Age’s preoccupation with the primacy of consciousness over the physical can be seen here within this ascension scenario. It has its beginnings with the 19th century Indian sage Ramakrishna, who claimed that the purpose of life was to realize God through consciousness. According to these folks everything that is worthy or “real” happens through consciousness.  All else is an illusion, especially the physical which is seen as an abomination in some Eastern sects and something to be overcome and denied in Western religious and philosophical systems. Very few want you to do deal with what is here on the physical plane of existence, which is, by the way, the only part of existence we can verify that something is occurring. The 2012 eschaton  is an imaginary event that people have attempted to make “true” simply by having beliefs about it. Busybodies will weave all sorts of threads to gain legitimacy and traction, but unfortunately for them, 2012 will come and go with nothing to show for it – just like the Photon Belt and Y2K. And they will be asked to drop their beliefs and to stand up within their physical frame that they have and honor it by treating it, and others, with respect.

Just where in the heck did all this 2012 Mayan Prophecy talk begin? Well, the late Jose Arguelles, who was the chief architect for 1987′s  Harmonic Convergence ,  argued in his 1987 book,  the Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology, that,

“the primary intention of the Mayan calendar system was not to measure time but to record the harmonic calibrations of a galactic synchronization beam, 5,125-years or 5200-tun (360-day cycles) in duration. According to the time science of the ancient Maya, a great moment of transformation awaits us at 2012, when we pass out of that beam. “[1]

Yes. According to Arguelles, the galaxy and our Earth are going to converge in such an alignment that will produce a beam (yes, a beam) that will somehow either cause an evolutionary step-up in the consciousness of humanity, or bring about a final cataclysm. While  this interpretation of the Mayan Calendar could be seen as one man’s syncretization of an almost-dead religion updated to a modern New Age mythology, Arguelles’ book was the first attempt to set up a link between the Mayan 2012 calendar prophecy with a kind of New Age Spirituality eschatology. It certainly was an attempt to justify and explain a life experience of Argurelles who was allegedly stricken with a vision at the age of 14 atop the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico in 1953.

Outside of Mexico City, on top of the Pyramid of the Sun, when I had this experience like a vision or an inner knowing that it was my life mission to learn or remember again the cosmic knowledge that had been used to build Teotihuacan in the first place. And that was my life mission and journey — from that moment in 1953 when I was fourteen, my life became increasingly devoted to decoding the Mayan mathematics and prophecies. – Arguelles.  Interview. Magical Blend Magazine (2002)

Was it a “vision” or an “inner knowing?” Maybe it was a desire or something less profound? In any case, there has been a cottage industry of books, seminars and movies touting the End of the Age according to the Mayan Prophecy as interpreted by Arguelles. During this year-long investigation we will see how such things came to lodge itself into the minds of human beings and whether anything of substance will come out of this “prophecy” other than inevitable crushing of the true believers’ wishful thinking.

If one takes a careful survey of the condition of workers across the world, one would scarcely be surprised at how much workers  have to give up to remain “economically viable” within the capitalist system. In the USA, workers are under immense pressure as the job market continuously shrinks the so-called “Middle Class” out of existence. In the Euro zone, there is great discomfort as the global debt bomb crisis threatens to tank the Continental economy and tear the Euro apart. In Central and Latin America (and Africa) under the thumb of the IMF and World Bank austerity limits, political corruption and organized crime has created a perpetual state of underdevelopment where disenfranchised workers are condemned to survive hand – to – mouth. And in China, the workers (and natural resources)  are exploited and repressed by the State to such an extent, one wonders if the Communist Chinese leadership (as the 21st Century version of the neo bourgeoisie) are aware of the ironic joke that they have become.

Within all this there seems only three major trajectories that Capitalism will proceed. 1) The neo-liberal transnational American version backed by military intervention, 2) the Chinese model that represses and reduces its citizens to mere cattle for the good of the “State,” and 3) something entirely different.  The first two options will end in the same neighborhood of perpetual enslavement and disenfranchisement. We can create the third option into something never tried before, the creation of a system that will serve all equally. But understand one thing – capitalism will eat itself. It has to due to its own internal logic. In its pathological desire for endless profit that must consume resources that are limited, there is a point of no return that must be crossed, and once crossed, everything that was once taken for granted will no longer be here. What will be left will be the consequences of trashing our world to the point of near-collapse. And we will have to walk through the nightmare and be chastened and thankful for lessons learned too late.

People will scoff today at such ideas as Equal Money and the Basic Income Grant, but there will not be any other viable options after Capitalism eats itself. Best to educate oneself now about the only great social movement that matters; universal equality for all.

2011 is almost gone. Do you know where your Light-body is?

Welcome, back. It’s been a while since I’ve made a post here, but I’ve been working on several writing projects and just completed one of them, so that’s good news.

My goal at the beginning of last year was to boost the readership of the blog, and I am happy to report  Mission: Accomplished. Views nearly quadrupled over the previous year, and I attribute that to several reasons, the main one being that I actually posted more blogs than I ever have before.

In looking back at the events of 2011, it seems that the old adage of, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” The “Arab Spring,” which began almost a year ago when a young Tunisian fruit merchant set himself on fire in protest against the crushing economic climate he was forced to participate within, we wonder how much has changed. Ironically, according to this Al Jazeera, the young man’s family had to leave Sidi Bouzid out of fear.

In Egypt, President-for-life Hosni Mubarak was toppled from power after the military repeatedly fired on its own citizens. With Mubarak gone, guess what the military is up to these days? Firing on its own citizens.

In Libya, the story is far from over. Although Qadhafi has been toppled from power and killed, his prescient comments made in 2008 to his fellow Middle Eastern leaders seem to carry more weight as time goes on.

Syria of course, has resisted the uprisings by brutally repressing its citizens. In reports that can only be termed as “surprising,” former pals Syria’s Assad and Hamas (the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement in Israel) are not on speaking terms.

Osama bin Laden was allegedly assassinated by American Navy Seals. We don’t know for sure because the man’s body was thrown into the ocean. Allegedly.

The EU had been rocked by one financial tsunami after another. Japan was rocked by an actual tsunami and had one of its nuclear reactors melt down.

Steve Jobs, the leader of Apple died. His reported last words: “Oh, wow.“

Excuse me, but didn’t you used to be Occupy Wall Street?

With all the economic turmoil that threatens to implode Capitalism into something either more sinister or more beneficial in relationship to humanity, some people are looking to see why the Capitalist system is hopelessly caught in a perpetual cycle of boom-and-bust until that last boom when everything gets wrecked. Who knows what will arise from the ashes of Capitalism? How did we get here? The first question depends on a sea-change in human nature. The second question had been asked over 150 years ago by Karl Marx, who saw how Capitalism would end: not with a whimper, but a BANG.
